quote:"And Kristin Kreuk takes a crucially important final scene and nails it. An ambitiously innovative film that reaches for the stars and often gets there"
quote:"The final offense comes with the film's coda. It is a scene that could have fit in anywhere in the second act featuring Kristin Kreuk. It in no way adds anything to the now completed film. It feels clear to me that the filmmaker shot footage with Kruek, couldn't fit it in to the flow of the picture, so stapled it on to the end, knowing that having her name on the poster would get more eyeballs. Shame."
quote:"One of the final scenes, featuring Kristin Kreuk of Smallville fame, is charming doesn't give us any more insight into Simon's story. Was she the first? Why is this flashback being featured at the end like this, when Simon's story is, essentially, over?"
quote:"Before he could fly, Clark Kent only leapt tall buildings in a single bound.
Likewise "little by little, piece by piece" Kristin Kreuk is putting distance between herself and Lana Lang, the girl next door she played for seven seasons on the Superman prequel, Smallville.
"All these little things add up at some point," she says. "And I love doing the smaller roles because they're usually interesting, and I'm not on set every day."
The smaller role in question is her extended cameo in the Canadian co-production Vampire, a weird, atmospheric variation on the familiar blood-thirsty tropes. Vampire is in this year's world cinema dramatic competition at Sundance.
"I don't imagine this will be a huge movie. It's very uncomfortable to watch," Kreuk says. "I only had a day, and it was an interesting director and it was at home and I got to do something I don't get to do very often.""
quote:"For anyone who has never been to the Sundance Film Festival in Park City, Utah here is a brief synopsis: It’s the Superbowl of Indie film making. Getting in is TOUGH. Without looking at exact numbers Sundance shows 300-ish films out of the 6000-ish submitted. My main focus is the celebs....
...My personal highlights have been meeting legends like Norman Leer and Harry Belefonte (young stars may return but how often will we get to see these legends again in Utah?), meeting hotties (Maria Menunos, Kristen Kreuk, Lake Bell) and NOT seeing the useless Hollywood barnacles of humanity from The Jersey Shore or The Hills (they’ve either stayed away or are still sleeping when I’m out meeting)."
quote:"really enjoyed this film from a cultural perspective, but I’m worried it won’t sit well with American audiences who like their vampires a specific way. At the Q&A following the premiere, Iwai Shunji explained that the inspiration for the film came from an idea he had about a serial killer who was more like a friend to his victims. Thus, I gather he envisioned his film to be about empathy, compassion, addiction and suicide, which it is. Sadly, I think in this country you can’t mention vampires without sending the American mind into a very different direction, as aptly proven by my self-defeating post here (sorry, Iwai Shunji!)."
quote:"Do it, do it. Or you will regret it." This exchange continued on as Kristin was walking towards the entrance of the theatre where we were standing. I don't know know how because I was so freakin' scared but I took a few steps and walked up to her with my Partition DVD in hand and a blue Sharpie in the other and said:
ME: "Hi sorry, can you sign this for me please?" KK: somewhat surprised as she was looking for something in her purse just as I approached her, smiles, "Yes, sure. Who should I make it out to?" ME: "Eileen. E-I-L-E-E-N." (She may have asked me how to spell it.. I don't remember. It's all a little fuzzy.)"
quote:"With the Sundance Film Festival officially kicking-off today, a big chunk of our MTV News team has packed their bags and shipped off to Park City, Utah, to bring you scoops straight from the slopes, er, stars. Of course, with more than 200 films showing at the event, it can often be tricky to find the hidden gems (a.k.a. "Little Miss Sunshine"). That's where we come in.
To help you navigate the sheer number of movies, we parsed through the listings to find the six that are definitely worth keeping on the radar. Check out our list after the jump!
5. "Vampire" From "Twilight" to "True Blood," we just can't get enough of bloodsuckers, which is all the more reason to include "Vampire" on our list of Sundance movies to watch for. The flick stars Kevin Zegers (you might recognize him from "Gossip Girl"!), who plays a teacher/vampire who scours the Internet for suicidal girls to get his blood fix (uh, guess he's not quite as noble as Edward)."
quote:"Sundance's foreign-language films often feature mature themes and characters that American independents do not. Among the most interesting this year are, from Israel, Yossi Madmony's "Restoration," and from Canada, Sébastien Pilote's French-language "The Salesman." On a different plane altogether is Japanese director Shunji Iwai's spooky and unsettling "Vampire.""
quote:"MP: What are some of the films this year that were most surprising to you?
Groth: I didn’t know what to expect from Shunji Iwai’s new film [“Vampire”]. He’s a pretty established Japanese director working in the English language for the first time. I was a big fan of his films, especially “All About Lily Chou-Chou,” so I’m not surprised that I loved the film, and it was very smart and beautifully made, but just knowing that it’s dealing with the subject that he’s dealing with and calling it “Vampire,” I wasn’t sure what I was going to get. I was very happily surprised in the direction he went with it. It’s a pretty amazing film. "
'Vampire' at The Berlin International Film Festival

Vampire will also be showing at the 2011 Berlin International Film Festival. From Indiewire.com:
quote:"Included in the new batch of films is “Amador” from Panorama alum Fernando León De Aranoa (“Familia”), genre film “Vampire,” which stars Kevin Zegers, Rachel Leigh Cook, and Keisha Castle-Hughes, and the eagerly anticipated “Here” from Braden King. "
Ben-Hur is now set to release on ABC in summer 2011, hopefully this is true and not another run around! From Variety:
quote:"Variety 421.1 (Nov 15, 2010): p62
Project: "Ben Hur"
Network: ABC
Production: Alchemy TV Group/ Drimtim Entertainment
Status: On the shelf, waiting for an airdate
David Wyler, whose father directed the 1959 Charlton Heston epic "Ben Hur," first announced his TV miniseries adaptation in 2008. Production began in May 2009, soon after ABC signed on as the U.S. broadcaster.
Two years after it was first announced, "Ben Hur"--which stars Joseph Morgan, Emily VanCamp, Alex Kingston and Kristin Kreuk, among others--has already aired in much of the world, including Canada.
But in the U.S., ABC still hasn't found a time or place to run the miniseries. The networks mostly have gotten out of the longform biz after all, and the Alphabet would rather stick with its original fare than set aside time for an acquired mini.
ABC originally announced "Ben Hur" to come to the starting gate some time this year. But with no airdate on the horizon, the mini now looks more likely to wind up on U.S. screens some time in summer 2011."
quote:"We do have some not-so-great news to report as well. (Well, depending on which side of the Lana Lang line you stand on.) Ausiello writes that Kristin Kreuk "will definitely not be back."
Hope this is my last and final time I'll have to report on this news... because the first 394839843th times weren't enough of a confirmation that Kristin won't be returning, hope this time it'll stick!
Celebufight.com is having a 2010 Tournament for female celebs and right now the round match is between Kristin and Christina Aguilera. Kristin winning at the moment, if you care to have her keep winning vote for her by clicking the red star next to Kristin's name.
quote:"Called "Irvine Welsh's Ecstasy," the film stars Vancouver-born Kristin Kreuk of "Smallville" fame as Heather, who leaves her husband (Toronto native Dean McDermott) and dives into Scotland's drug-filled rave scene of the 1990s."
