GameRevolution.com interviewed with Capcom's head of marketing Charles Bellfield back in November of last year. The interview is dated but Charles talks about the The Legend of Chun-Li release plans.
quote:"GameDaily BIZ: How is the new Street Fighter film different from what Capcom did back in 1994?
Charles Bellfield: What we're announcing here is a movie based around a character, so it gives more story line than the actual movie project in the past which was a general Street Fighter franchise. This is a far more character-based and story-based film that we're working with Hyde Park in developing. Chung Li is one of the main characters and she's one of the most popular characters in the U.S. and also appeals to the Western audience. Going forward, largely because of the reputation of videogames going to movies, having a more direct input into the creation of the movie experience is important in managing Capcom's brands. We want to build a strong franchise successful in a different medium like movies, rather than just handing over our IP to other people to develop movie franchises."
quote:"Truly, it is only this kind of thing - and the lambent, extraordinary beauty of Kristin Kreuk, which is actually starting to hurt my eyes - that keeps us coming back for more."
Added higher quality captures from Late Night with Conan OBrien and screen captures from AOL Television interview that I assumed were in the gallery, but Roberto corrected me!
quote:"However, Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li starring Kristin Kreuk is scheduled for a 2009 release. Tsujimoto indicates that the success of the $40 million film, which is jointly funded and produced with 20th Century Fox, will have a major influence on the company’s future movie projects."
quote:"Capcom Japan just released the first photo of Smallville star Kristin Kreuk as Chun-Li in Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li (seen above). My immediate reaction is that she isn’t wearing the traditional blue outfit or the “ox horns” hairstyle as seen in the video game. And I’m not complaining, it’s probably for the better. "
quote:"Capcom of Japan released the above photo today from the in-production Street Fighter movie, giving us what appears to be our first, heavily artifacted glimpse of Kristin Kreuk as Chun-Li in Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li. It's not the traditional blue outfit we're used to seeing Chun-Li sporting, but she has to put that thing in the wash sometime."
quote:"Partition officially released in Bulgaria. Shocking – but true :)
Last month I went to Bulgaria for 2 weeks. Ok, so just to clarify cause I know the first sentence probably doesn’t make a whole lot of sense to most of you guys – I am a Bulgarian who’s currently living and working in the US. Bulgaria is this small country in Eastern Europe, just south of Romania and north of Turkey and Greece. Some of you might say – wow, quite the lovely location. Well you know – it is and it isn’t :) Anyways I was there on a 2 week work-vacation (work-vacation – what the hell is that? Basically it something that initially supposed to be a real vacation but in reality it’s more like a work thing away from work). Gotta tell you – April in Bulgaria is quite the lovely month. Trees are blooming, it’s nice and warm, the birds are singing crazy songs and everyone’s wearing short sleeve shirts. Weather wise – you almost can’t beat it. Everything else wise….hehe let’s just say it could be better ;) But enough about Bulgaria. "

LEX DISCOVERS CLARK’S SECRET — Kara (Laura Vandervoort) tells Lex (Michael Rosenbaum) he is destined to defeat the Traveler and offers to take him to the Fortress to learn how. Clark (Tom Welling) is stunned that Kara would go to Lex but it is revealed that Brainiac is impersonating Kara and she’s actually trapped in the Phantom Zone. Chloe is arrested by the Department of Domestic Security and Lana awakens from her comatose state. Meanwhile, in an epic turn of events, Clark and Lex face off in the Fortress and Lex learns Clark’s secret.
Returning for its eighth season, this new interpretation of the enduring Superman mythology and its classic characters blends realism and adventure into an exciting action series. Last season, Clark Kent and Lex Luthor (Michael Rosenbaum) became the sworn enemies that comic book aficionados have always known and loved. The season also brought storylines of Krypton and the El family, including the arrival of Clark's cousin Kara, a.k.a. Supergirl (Laura Vandervoort), and the return of Brainiac (James Marsters). There were also exciting guest stars from the Superman mythology, including Dean Cain ("Lois & Clark") and Helen Slater ("Supergirl"). Clark discovered more about his home planet, who his parents were, what his future holds and why he was sent to Earth. The series stars Tom Welling as Clark Kent, Kristin Kreuk as Lana Lang, Erica Durance as Lois Lane and Aaron Ashmore as Jimmy Olsen. Reinterpreting the Superman mythology from its roots, SMALLVILLE was developed for television by Alfred Gough & Miles Millar ("Shanghai Noon," "Spiderman 2"), based on the DC Comics characters. The executive producers are Kelly Souders & Brian Peterson, Todd Slavkin & Darren Swimmer, James Marshall, Mike Tollin, Brian Robbins and Joe Davola. The series is produced by Tollin/Robbins Productions and Warner Bros. Television. Superman was created by Jerry Siegel and Joe Schuster.
TheWB.com Beta interface has been updated and now features a promo video with the stars of Smallville and other TV series such as TheOC, One Tree Hill, Buffy and Gilmore Girls.
quote:"The part of Chun-Li will be played by lovely Smallville [and Edgemont - Dep Ed] star Kristin Kreuk, but Justin Marks sees her in more of a Ripley from Aliens role than any-of-them from Dead or Alive."
quote:"Justin Marks, writer of the Street Fighter: Legend of Chun-Li film, is aware that most gamers have wanted to wed Chun-Li (and possibly worse) since we were yay high, but it looks like we can expect a dignified treatment of the leading lady, played by Smallville actress Kristin Kreuk."
quote:"The new Street Fighter movie is moving along steadily, with casting confirmations coming in at a regular pace and the line-up actually (amazingly) not seeming terrible."
Kristin is featured and interviewed in the June/July issue of Sophisticate's Hairstyle Guide. All of the photos used for the spread are outtakes from the 2007 Elle Canada Magazine photoshoot that have never been released before:
Justin Marks, writer of Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li was interviewed by Joblo.com and here's what he had to say on Kristin and one of the reasons why she took the role:
quote:"The second factor is Kristin herself. She's really something special, a fantastic actress and very selective about what she will and won't do, because she knows that lots of girls out there are really impressionable. So we've gone to great lengths to make sure Chun-Li is not just a sex object fantasy for people's desktop backgrounds. That was something Kristin made very clear, and we're honored that she's willing to go that route, because it's one of the factors that's going to elevate this above adolescent video-game adaptation."

quote:"Erin in Tallahassee, Fla.: Are Lana and Lex both really leaving Smallville? For better or worse, yes. And before they do—spoiler alert!—Lex will find the Fortress, and Lana will get better and then leave the town."
Kristin's Smallville co-star Michael Rosenbaum mentioned her during a panel at the Calgary Comic & Entertainment Expo '08, that took place at the end of April.
quote:"& how Kristen never talked to him for the longest time. Then one day She went up to him and was like "I really like working with you" and he was all "oh my god.. she likes working with me! shes talking to me! omg...""
StreetFighterMovie.net has posted a new blog titled Swingin’ in the Rain! In the entry there's a mention of a Chun-Li vs. Vega fight that was filmed this past week (the fanboys will love that), along with a storyboard showing Chun-Li swinging into action against Vega... literally!
Also the author of the blog has opened a line for fans to submit questions to be answered either by himself, a crew member or one of the actors!
