Readers of this magazine, please don't take offense, but Smallville star Kristin Kreuk's feelings about such publications has become a matter of public record: "I'm against men's magazine in general," says TV's Lana Lang to the sighs of millions. "In America, in men's magazine, they write really poorly about women. I've never thought sexy photos, in context, were bad. Artistic values can be applied there. It's when a publication presents photos in a way that demeans women that they become a problem."
We wholeheartedly agree.
Not surprisingly, as Smallville and its stars have grown in popularity, so have the requests for interviews and photo shoots, which have forced the actress to expose more personal sides of herself, both emotionally and physically.
"I guess I've never been a really trustful person," she says. "I have had, like, three or four really close friends in my whole life, which proves I don't trust easily. I love my anonymity. It's something that I prize and cherish and always have. I don't go to stores too often, because I don't want the people there to know who I am. If you're living in a small town and everyone knows who you are, I can't stand it.
"Sometimes acting is an escape," Kristin muses, "but sometimes it pulls you further into things because you have to draw from them. But it's like pretending. It's like being a kid again. I used to read books to my sister all the time and I would do character voices, and then you play with your friends - we used to play The Little Mermaid. It's all acting, really, and it's so much fun. It's what I get to do every day, and I get paid for it. There's really not much to complain about, is there?" Not as far as we can tell.
